Stephen Lloyd of Thirteen Old Square appeared for the claimant nephews and nieces who challenged the validity of two wills made in 1994 by their late aunt, Mrs Golda Bechal.
The case received considerable press publicity with focus on the defendants' ownership of a Chinese restaurant leading to headlines such as 'The £10m tip? Widow who loved a Chinese leaves family with a bitter taste in mouth'.
The challenge was brought on the grounds of testamentary incapacity and/or the lack of requisite knowledge and approval. Mr Lloyd will discuss the background to the decision, any interesting points of law and practice, and factors which influenced the court in reaching its decision.
