Phone Hacking

30 August 11

Despite the demise of the News of the World, the newspaper headlines make it clear that this scandal is far from over. It is certainly not the end of the criminal investigation. Or any public enquiry. Or the civil claims for damages arising out of the phone hacking scandal. And neither is it the end of your need to protect personal data in your organisation.

While you may be less at risk now from being hacked by media organisations, with the press under such intense scrutiny, that doesn't mean that you (or someone in your organisation) might not have been an unwitting target in the past. Or indeed, a future victim. Others might be taking advantage while the media attention is directed elsewhere. And this could damage you and your organisation and brand.

Personal data is constantly under threat. So why take the risk?

Our media and reputation management team can assist you if you suspect that a mobile phone or Blackberry in your organisation may have been hacked. And you can help yourself by taking some simple steps towards self protection:

  • Don’t invite the media in: change pre-set or ‘factory’ settings on your voicemail and answering machines. Dial your voice mailbox as if to retrieve your messages and you will be taken to the appropriate options for changing your pin.

If you suspect that your mobile phone or Blackberry has been hacked call the Media and Reputation Management team.
