Highlights
- Negotiated for Guggenheim Asher the purchase of a $15 million painting from a British museum
- Secured significant damages in the English court for a Swiss-based contemporary art collector whose sculpture by Anish Kapoor was lost by specialist fine art shippers
- Litigation in the English court for the recovery of impressionist paintings stolen from the Bakwin collection in the USA
- Successfully represented Haunch of Venison before the London VAT Tribunal in a dispute with HM Revenue & Customs involving the importation of works of conceptual art
- Secured the return of six paintings stolen from a private collection in the USA, after successfully exposing the handler of the stolen paintings who has been jailed for his participation in a thirty year long fraud
- Negotiated contracts on behalf of a US curator and a US artist hired to mount a “blockbuster” exhibition in a national museum in Paris.
- Successfully settled a claim for the return of an Old Master painting forcefully taken by the Nazis
- Negotiated the consignment of Dora Maar with a Cat sold at Sotheby's in New York for US$95 million
- Advised the National Gallery of London on the acquisition of Diana and Actaeon by Titian
Publications and speaking engagements
Pierre is a regular contributor to legal journals and a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and abroad. He also lectures on art law at the Sotheby’s Institute, the University of Lyon, London School of Economics and Christie's Education. He is also a Trustee of the World Monuments Fund in Britain.
