Stephen acts for individuals, institutions and charities in relation to all aspects of contentious trust and succession (domestic and international). In particular he frequently advises in relation to will validity challenges, and issues of construction and rectification; constructive trust and proprietary estoppel claims; claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975; professional negligence claims in relation to estate planning, trust and succession issues; proceedings before the Court of Protection including acting for applicants and respondents in applications for statutory wills and lifetime gifts and contested registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney.
January 2008 - World Society for the Protection of Animals and others v Bowman. Stephen, along with Paul Hewitt, obtained a High Court order for the removal of an executor who was failing to administer the estate in accordance with the will. The executor was ordered to pay the charities' costs.
Stephen co-writes the bi-monthly legal update for The Institute of Legacy Management.
In his spare time, Stephen likes to escape to the hills with a tent or the nearest spot of water with a surf board.
