Reputation management

Our IP, media & technology team has a great deal of experience in advising businesses and high-profile individuals on how to deal with potentially damaging media exposure of all types.

This might involve taking pre-emptive action to prevent the publication or broadcast of stories infringing a client’s privacy or confidentiality. Alternatively, we might act to obtain swift corrections, apologies and damages from the media, or redress from the media regulators, after the event.

We have acted for many years both for and against the media in cutting-edge cases involving a wide range of reputation-linked issues including defamation, malicious falsehood, contempt, harassment and privacy/confidentiality.

Recent work

  • Acting for two well known individuals in negotiations over the content of an article about their relationship that was due to appear in a national newspaper.
  • Representing a company over various articles published by a national newspaper group, concerning its alleged malpractices. This involved negotiating a published retraction of the allegations and an apology.
  • Advising a company on defamation and malicious falsehood claims by a rival that its products were unlawful and that it was going out of business.
