Disputes, discrimination & severance

We regularly act for both employers and employees. Having been on both sides of the table, we use our knowledge of how each party operates to the other's advantage.

We help individual employees understand what may lie ahead, and how best to resolve their issues. Knowing the strategies that employers adopt when seeking to dismiss, demote or sideline particular members of staff, means we are better able to protect clients who find themselves in a vulnerable position.

For employees looking to move on to new roles, we can devise strategies for achieving this objective without jeopardizing the employee-employer relationship.

Recent work

  • Acting for a fund manager in a multi-million pound claim (primarily from the loss of annual bonuses) over constructive unfair dismissal arising from whistleblowing.
  • Representing a senior female executive in a discrimination claim arising from her need for work flexibly to care for her disabled child.
  • Acting for a senior male executive in a complex discrimination claim over his employer's response to a complaint of sexual harassment against him.
  • Regular negotiations of compromise agreements for senior executives, with severance payments often reaching seven figures.
  • Utlizing cross-border settlement and litigation strategies to force a resolution of the rights of a high-ranking executive to significant earn-out payments the acquiring company refused to pay to the executive following the acquisition of his equity interest and wrongful termination of his employment.
  • Securing a substantial, lump sum severance payment on behalf of a 20-year veteran Managing Director by marshaling evidence that his employment was terminated to clear the way for younger leadership and was leaked to the press as a part of a strategy to manipulate earnings.
  • Securing a substantial settlement for a senior executive on his claim against a publicly-held, internationally-recognized retailer for a racially-motivated termination.
  • Settling a disability discrimination claim for nine year's pay against a public sector employer.
