Divorce & family law

We advise on all areas of family law, with a particular focus on the financial issues that arise when relationships are formalised or break down. Much of our work involves the resolution of complex financial settlements, often with an international perspective and further complicated by tax or trust issues.   Our team enjoys a  market leading reputation, built over a hundred years of practice.

The size of a potential financial settlement is in many cases affected by the country in which divorce proceedings are filed. We can provide detailed advice at short notice for clients who are ‘forum shopping’ – looking for the best place to file proceedings.

  • The husband in Sorrell v Sorrell, the leading case concerning 'special contributions' to the family wealth.
  • The husband in Charman v Charman, which involved the biggest divorce payment in British legal history.
