Mediation & collaborative law

We place considerable emphasis on the use of collaborative law and mediation, which enables separating couples to come to agreed settlements without having to endure adversarial court proceedings and a court imposed solution.

The collaborative approach is based on a series of meetings and frank discussions between the clients, enabling them to remain in control of the process, but have their lawyers present on each side for legal advice and guidance.

Our collaborative family lawyers are able to help clients reach a fair, negotiated agreement; we will then work together with the lawyers representing the other party to draw up the terms and have them approved by the court and made into an order.

Many members of the family team are also trained mediators. Often, separating couples are unable to discuss crucial issues relating to their children or financial affairs in a constructive way, even though they would like to reach an agreement. In these situations, skilled mediators can help them reach an understanding and find a solution in a neutral environment.

We typically act for wealthy individuals and our skill and experience attracts an international client base. Our lawyers’ collaborative and mediation skills outside the courts play a central role in reducing the trauma of separation.
