Our wealth planning team has considerable experience advising Italian clients who are resident in the UK and English/US clients with interests in Italy. We frequently advise such clients on the interaction between UK/ US and Italian inheritance/estate taxes and succession rules.

Our practice also routinely involves advising Italian clients who wish to move to the UK /US on estate and tax planning techniques, and UK/US clients who wish to move to Italy.

The team includes partners and lawyers who are Italian nationals or speak fluent Italian. It is dedicated to working in the UK, the US, Italy, Switzerland and elsewhere with Italian clients and foreign clients with interests in Italy. The team has a wide network of contacts among Italian professionals and intermediaries.

Members of our team often speak at high profile seminars and lectures and contribute regularly to legal journals and publications. Recognition of the team's success includes the British Legal Awards 2007 - Private Client Team of the Year.

Recent work

  • Acting for Italian families on the establishment of Family Offices.
  • Advising on the tax consequences of Italian nationals relocating to the UK and the US including the acquisition of UK and US real estate.
  • Creating and varying trust structures for significant Italian families, taking into account the latest developments in the UK and Italy relating to the taxation of trusts.
  • Setting up excluded property settlements for the purposes of UK inheritance tax, including the transfer of Italian real estate into trusts governed by English law.
  • Preparing wills in light of English and Italian succession and inheritance/estate tax rules, including English wills that prevent Italian forced heirship from applying.
