From our offices in Europe, the US and Hong Kong, we work with families in over 80 countries. We regularly establish trusts and family foundations to meet the needs of these clients. While the legal structure and philosophy of trusts and foundations are radically different, the use of a structure which is appropriate to the family is paramount, and sometimes a trust is more appropriate, while at other times, a foundation is a more useful tool.
We advise on the establishment, administration, governance and administration of such vehicles. We work closely with corporate trustees, and in appropriate cases, assist very wealthy families in the creation of private trust companies in such jurisdictions as Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, New Zealand and a number of American states.
While many of our clients come from common law backgrounds, these structures are also used with frequency by families living in civil law and Sharia environments. This is particularly true where the family invests internationally, or has family members in various parts of the world.
