We have practical experience in establishing trusts for Italians and non-Italians with assets in Italy taking into account the new rules on the taxation of trusts introduced by the Italian Finance Act 2007.  In this context, we have used a number of jurisdictions which minimize the adverse tax treatment of trusts under the new rules.

In addition, we regularly advise Italians and their families in relation to the establishment of private and commercial trusts for wealth planning purposes. One recent example includes the establishment of a trust to hold a substantial art collection.

Our experience in international trust law and our wide-ranging portfolio of contacts throughout the common law world enable us to provide independent advice to families with a view to striking the right balance between the prerogatives and powers of the trustees, the expectations of settlors and the rights of the beneficiaries.

Where necessary, we provide Italian clients with litigation support - in a recent example which was widely reported in the Italian press and which was the subject-matter of a book, our award-winning Contentious Trust & Succession Team assisted an Italian entrepreneur in settling a multi-million dollar dispute with estranged family members.
