Charitable donations to EU organizations eligible for tax relief

Taxpayers in the UK donating money to charitable organisations based outside the UK have until now not been able to take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme or other tax reliefs for their donations.

The 2010 Budget includes proposals to extend the Gift Aid scheme (and other tax reliefs) to UK taxpayers giving to certain European Charities so long as the organisation they are donating to is deemed eligible by HMRC (see item above: Extension of Tax Reliefs to certain European charities). HMRC will be publishing a list of organisations which they have confirmed as eligible for relief on their website.
