David Walker

David is an associate in the litigation and arbitration team.

He specialises in international arbitration and public international law. David has represented both States and investors in investment treaty arbitrations across a wide range of industries including construction, energy, retail, financial services, and manufacturing. His recent experience includes representing a UK technology company in an UNCITRAL case against a European State, advising on a NAFTA investment treaty arbitration for a US company against Canada regarding an investment in the energy sector, and acting for a number of energy companies in claims against States relating to expropriation and breaches of fair and equitable treatment. David has also advised States on investment law obligations and other public international law issues and disputes.

David also has significant experience of international commercial arbitration under LCIA and ICC Rules, as well as ad hoc proceedings, seated in common and civil law jurisdictions. He has represented a major manufacturer on an ICC arbitration in relation to an alleged breach of a non-disclosure agreement, a European State in its successful defence of an ICC arbitration claim relating to a construction project, and he has worked on a number of other major arbitrations relating to infrastructure and commercial projects.

Aside from contentious work, David has advised investors in Europe, Asia, USA, and Africa on international investment law rights and obligations.
