Join us to hear the story of your sector

Did you know that it was 1919 when the first female lawyer qualified? And it was as late as 1981 before a woman finally became a partner in a city law firm.

Our firm's own story is woven through this project. Diana Parker was the first woman to be appointed Senior Partner of a City firm, while Elaine Aarons was one of the first partners to establish flexible working in 1989. We acted for Gwyneth Bebb who bravely took on The Law Society in 1913 to demand that she and three other women be allowed to sit exams to qualify as solicitors. The court ruled against her, but the publicity achieved with the case helped the campaign that finally allowed women to go on and qualify as lawyers.

Because we are so connected to the development of women's roles in our sector, we support The First 100 Years. This project is finding and filming these stories, and will donate the digital archive which is being created to the British Museum in 2019. We are very fortunate to have Dana Denis-Smith, the force behind this project, to come in to talk to us about the stories she has heard and her work to improve equality for all.

This is a fabulous way to tell the external world about us and to hear some of our history. All are welcome and please do bring a friend.

To ensure you don't miss out, reserve a place using the rsvp button above or below.
