The recent legalization of sports betting in the U.S. has opened the door to potential new revenue streams for the major U.S. sports leagues. One revenue stream that all leagues are capitalizing on is the distribution of general and in-game data and analytics . The National Basketball Association (NBA) recently signed partnership deals with Sportradar and Genius Sports for their betting data. Sportradar and Genius Sports will hold non-exclusive rights to distribute official NBA betting data to licensed bookmakers across the United States. The deals cover both the NBA and WNBA, including pre-season, regular season and playoff games. The NBA joins the National Hockey League (NHL), which has also signed partnership deals for its betting data. However, the NHL is also in the process of developing proprietary, real-time data through player tracker systems. It will be interesting to see if the NBA, and other leagues, follows suit as well with similar technology of its own. For more information on the NHL’s gambling data partnership, please see our previous blog at https://www.withersworldwide.com/en-gb/nhl-wagers-on-sports-betting.
