Withers associate, Lauren Bursey is a member of The Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation and worked to draft a statement standing with colleagues around the world to condemn threats made by the United States President to destroy cultural sites in Iran.
The statement notes that the recent threats are particularly troubling due to the pivotal role the US has historically played in safeguarding art and heritage during war and highlights the importance of Iran’s cultural heritage, not only to Iranians but to all humanity. The statement resounds in a call to world leaders to recognize the value of cultural heritage and take the appropriate actions to protect it for future generations.
The Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation (LCCHP) is a nonprofit organization consisting of lawyers, law students, and interested members of the public who band together to promote the preservation and protection of cultural heritage resources domestically and internationally through education and advocacy.
