On your radar? | Withers' annual employment law seminar

Employment law in 2017 has hardly been out of the news. In July the Supreme Court struck down the entire fee regime in the employment tribunals in a decision that has ramifications for the whole of our legal system. Tribunals are already seeing an upturn in the number of claims presented.

A series of decisions on employment status has challenged the business model of household names and so called 'gig economy' companies such as Uber and Deliveroo. The Court of Appeal has also reached a decision on whistleblowing that should make all employers think carefully about how they treat individual grievances at work. And finally, the long arm of EU law continues to find its way into UK HR practice as the General Data Protection Regulation begins to take effect. Whatever the political weather it seems clear that employment law is set to remain centre stage in the running of organisations large and small.
