Assisted in the successful appeal
Assisted in the successful appeal for an accused person who was facing the death penalty for drug trafficking. He was alleged inter alia to have been the mastermind who directed two other individuals to transport and deliver drugs. After two applications were made to adduce fresh evidence, and a remittal hearing for the Trial Judge to consider queries raised by the Court of Appeal, the Court of Appeal reversed the Trial Judge's decision to convict and ordered a full acquittal. $
Assisted in the successful defence
Assisted in the successful defence in Lim Hong Liang v Public Prosecutor [2021] SGHC 106, wherein the accused was alleged of being the mastermind of a conspiracy to voluntarily cause grievous hurt. The central issue at the appeal related to the consequences of the Prosecution's breach of its disclosure obligations. While the Appellate Judge ordered a retrial, the Prosecution eventually withdrew its charge against the accused and granted him a Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNATA). $
