Revised code of good governance for the voluntary & community sector

The Steering Group behind the publication of the Code of Good Governance for the Voluntary & Community Sector 2010 included representatives from Charity Trustee Networks (CTN), the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) and the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Chris Priestley, a partner in Withers’ Charities & Philanthropy Team was also involved. The revised Code is based on six key principles describing how an effective board of trustees provides good governance and leadership. The importance of each principle is explained and there are examples throughout of how to apply them in practice. The key principles are that trustees should:

  • understand their role;
  • ensure delivery of organisational purpose;
  • work effectively both as individuals and a team;
  • exercise effective control;
  • behave with integrity; and
  • be open and accountable.

The Code is only available in downloadable format for cost reasons. For a full copy please click here
