The Future of International Arbitration in Light of COVID
Monday, 25 October 2021 | 16:30 – 19:00 (HKT)
Venue: Zoom / Withers Hong Kong office (30/F, United Centre, 95 Queensway, Hong Kong}
The Covid-19 Pandemic has and continues to impact the world in ways no one could have imagined. Worldwide challenges appeared in every aspect of life both personally and professionally. Given the various consequences, international arbitration and cross-border disputes have been on the rise. With travel restrictions in place, the international arbitration community has already responded swiftly to address novel problems associated with COVID in order to ensure smooth (and continued) arbitration proceedings. In particular, in Hong Kong, the HKSAR government and the HKIAC have implemented a variety of measures designed to address these obstacles in order to facilitate and maintain ongoing international arbitrations. Such changes have also occurred in the leading arbitral seats and commercial centres worldwide such as the U.S., U.K., Singapore, and the PRC. Even with the steady roll-out of vaccines, the pandemic continues to be a part of our lives and a new norm. Nevertheless, with the future in mind, the international arbitration community continues to implement a variety of guidelines and protocols to ensure that international arbitration keeps up with the new norms.
Please join HKIAC and Withers in a hybrid event on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong Arbitration Week, where a distinguished panel of speakers will discuss inter alia how COVID has impacted international arbitrations and cross-border disputes, what measures have been implemented to ensure that parties’ rights continue to be heard and disputes resolved, and what they believe the new norm will be once the Pandemic is finally over.
To register, please click here. This event will run as a hybrid session, please choose to attend by Zoom or in-person when registering on the HKIAC registration portal.
For those who are attending in-person, a confirmation email will be sent by Withersworldwide to confirm your attendance. Please note that all in-person attendees must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated.
