Technology influences almost every part of our life. The way we work, live and communicate is increasingly influenced by fast paced technological advances.

Increasingly driven by start-ups, these companies are disrupting established industries as well as creating entirely new sectors. We understand that constantly evolving and fast growing tech companies need experienced advisors with sector expertise to guide them through their journey. And that’s where Withers Tech come in.

From Silicon Valley to Silicon roundabout, and everywhere in-between

Tech companies often benefit from the ability to expand internationally without the need to set up physical locations. However, when ready, certain considerations and advice will need to be taken in order to ensure the expansion is a success.

Intellectual property, data protection, regulatory and contract law will likely have to be considered. With teams in key tech sectors in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific, we are able to advise on the local regulations to ensure you and your business are compliant.

Three areas of focus

We specialize in three major aspects of IP counsel for our technology clients.

Protection – With IP accounting for 80% of a company’s value, the protection of your assets is of upmost importance. We handle the registration of the main types of IP rights, in addition to legal issues relating to the internet and personal data protection.

Commercialization – Commercial transactions are a large part of the tech sector, with acquisitions sometimes reaching eye watering sums. We can advise on all aspects of the acquisition process, contracts and licensing.

Enforcement – Should anyone be infringing on your rights as an IP owner, swift and effective action will need to be taken early on, to ensure the impact to your business is minimized, and effective preparation can mitigate the risks or chances of it happening. We have experience of advising on all aspects of infringement issues and copyright claims.

I see Withers tech as more of a sparring partner than my lawyers. We spend time thinking through different scenarios and discussing how certain decisions could positively or negatively impact the future of Meatable, and this process crystallised our priorities. Sharmela finds the exact right balance between being the ‘formal lawyer’, and being pragmatic and thinking proactively.
