With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set to come into force on 25 May 2018, the pressure is building for charities and non-profit organisations to implement their response. When it comes into effect, the GDPR will represent the most significant change to data protection regulation in the UK for at least the last 20 years.

It is clear that some organisations are further down the path with their preparation than others. For many charities, who are still grappling with how they apply current rules in the wake of the ICO rulings in relation to fundraising earlier this year, and, with much of the actual policy detail still to be provided, the prospect of having to apply GDPR is proving to be a daunting challenge.

To provide you with the practical information you need about the new regulation, we are delighted to invite you to join us at our GDPR seminar on the evening of Thursday 12 October. Chris Priestley, Withers' head of charities and philanthropy and Kenneth Mullen, who leads our European IP, technology and data team, will be discussing the GDPR and the exploring the potential impact on the sector. The seminar will include the following topics:

  • What GDPR means for the sector and fundraising
  • Fair processing and the new accountability principle
  • Enhanced individual rights and subject access
  • Data Protection Officers and Privacy Impact Assessments
  • Cyber security and breach reporting
