Overview

Amber Melville-Brown is a media specialist, with more than 15 years experience in the UK's leading media law firms. She specialises in defamation, privacy and reputation management. She has a wealth of experience of acting on both sides of the claimant defendant divide, having acted during her career for major international publishers and broadcasters.

While she still advises defendants, including publishers and photographers, the majority of her practice involves advising clients where they have some interface, be it welcome or unwanted, with the media, pre and post publication. Amber is aware of the pressures that clients face when experiencing unwanted media attention and her clients commend her for easing the burden in such potentially stressful times.

Publications and speaking engagements

Amber is a respected author on media matters. She is one of the longest standing columnists for the Law Society Gazette and writes and contributes to national newspapers and specialist titles. She is the author of the UK privacy chapter in the Bloomberg News International Libel & Privacy Handbook and has also written, presented and produced training videos for lawyers on media related subjects in conjunction with Legal Network Television.

Amber teaches media at the College of Law and is a visiting lecturer on defamation and privacy at the London School of Economics.

On a personal note

Amber has a particular interest in wildlife and environmental matters which she has combined with her interest in writing including as author of several columns for Oryx, the in-flight airline of Qatar Airways and other travel writing.

Amber has been included in The Times as The Times Lawyer of the Week and was reported in the Independent's "Defame Academy" to be one of only a few women lawyers who had "made it" in defamation.
