Overview

With over 34 years experience in employment and partnership law, Elaine focuses on acting for directors, senior executives, senior partners and entrepreneurs.

In particular she advises on termination of employment, resignation/removal from partnerships, negotiating service agreements and LLP agreements (including negotiating corporate indemnities), investigations and disciplinary proceedings (particularly in FCA/PRA regulated businesses), bonus, discrimination and whistleblowing claims, team moves and restrictive covenants (drafting and enforcement). She first became partner in 1989 at a previous law firm.

Regarded as being 'amongst the best individual employment lawyers in the London market' (Insider's Guides to Legal Services), she has been variously described by Legal 500 as 'phenomenal' and by Chambers as 'thinks outside the box' and 'fights her clientscorners with great passion'. She has also been described by the directories as having a superb reputation for senior executive work and as 'tenacious and intelligent', a 'keen strategist and tactician', a 'formidable opponent', a ‘first-class operator' and 'supremely clever'. She is recommended for her 'sense of strategy and imagination'. Those surveyed by Chambers noted that she 'represents top clients and she does it very adroitly' and is 'relentless for her clients'.

Elaine is regularly instructed to lead multi-disciplinary teams and is therefore a natural choice where employment, regulatory and reputation management issues are paramount. She is also used as team leader on matters involving corporate, litigation and wealth planning advice.

Highlights

Elaine regularly acts for individuals having to respond to internal investigations and disciplinary proceedings where allegations and related regulatory notifications could potentially prevent them continuing with their current career, particularly where they are dependant on approval from the FCA and the PRA in order to continue working. She has advised CEOs and others on how to respond to Parliamentary and other public enquiries into their businesses and their management.

She frequently acts for FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 directors on their appointment and removal/resignation.

Elaine regularly conducts seven figure discrimination, whistleblowing and bonus claims. She is also very experienced in advising executives who are joining or exiting businesses backed by private equity.
