Overview

Matthew is joint head of the landed estates group.  He focuses on the mitigation of inheritance and capital gains taxes and the long term devolution of private wealth - particularly landed estates and owner managed businesses. His practice includes advising international clients on suitable structures to manage their multi-national and multi-generational needs.

Matthew writes for the Financial Times Readers' Questions, wrote the agricultural and business property relief chapters for McCutcheon and Withers LLP on inheritance tax planning and co-authored the chapter on Governance and Management for the Business Families and Family Business STEP Handbook for Advisors. Matthew is also a contributor to Sweet & Maxwell's Practical Trust Precedents, Practical Will Precedents and International Trust Precedents.

Matthew is one of Private Client Practitioner's 50 Most Influential 2012.

Matthew spoke at the Lexis Nexis Webinar - Landed Estates - What's New? - on 10 September 2010 and at the Tolley's Conference on Tax Planning for Landed Estates on 20 April 2011.

Matthew has contributed to the November 2010 STEP Journal on business property relief for hybrid businesses following the decision in Balfour and to the 2010 Landed Estates Special Issue of Private Client Business on agricultural property relief.
