Overview

Julian focuses on divorce and family law, in particular in the financial repercussions of relationship formation and breakdown. His work frequently has an international perspective, often involving tax and trust implications, substantial assets or incomes.

Julian has developed a niche practice in negotiating domestic and international pre-nuptial and pre-civil partnership agreements, whose importance has increased substantially in recent years.

He handles disputes relating to children, both within and outside of the Court forum.

Julian has been recommended as one of the top ten UK family lawyers by Spears Wealth Management in its 2013 Family Law Index. The report was previewed in The Times, which described Julian as ‘ultra-efficient’ and highlighted feedback such as ‘‘enormously likeable’ style characterised by combination of empathy and objectivity’. Julian is also listed in the Citywealth Leading Lawyers Honours List within Family and Matrimonial and was ranked in The Lawyer's 'Hot 100 Lawyers of 2008' under Family and Private Client.

Julian is recognised by Chambers and Partners and is one of only five 'Star Individuals' in family law, he is described as 'the best of his generation', and in their 2014 edition as 'very bright and has a lovely manner about him.'

Chambers and Partners continues 'He often represents well-known household names, and he has been involved in some of the most high-profile and high-value cases in recent times. According to sources he is "wise, calm and extremely bright". 'He is a very good lawyer, pragmatic, academically strong and firm when necessary.'

Most recently, the Chambers and Partners 2015 Directory say that 'he can handle the big litigation, but will try to get the most sensible solution away from the courtroom,' and that he is a 'phenomenal, meticulous performer.'

Legal 500 describes him as ‘brilliant, practical and shrewd’ and also singles him out as a Leading Individual in their rankings. In 2013 Legal 500 has again recognised Julian as an '...excellent practitioner.'

‘peers say(ing) he ‘inspires great confidence’ and is ‘cool under fire.’ Clearly, clients concur, too.’
