Alumni spotlight | Laura Boyle
Laura spent seven years at Withers in the marketing and business development team, helping to shape the firm during a period of significant growth and international expansion. Since leaving, she has worked with individuals, families and charitable foundations on their impact investing. Here, Laura reflects on her time at Withers, the people who influenced and inspired her, and how those experiences continue to play a role in her work today.

Tell us about your time at Withers and the work you were involved in.
I spent seven years at Withers and really loved my time there. I joined in 2011 as a Marketing and Business Development (BD) Manager for the dispute resolution division, and in 2013 was promoted to Head of Marketing and Business Development, where I led a multidisciplinary team spanning marketing, BD and communications.
It was an exciting time to be at the firm. There was a real sense of momentum and entrepreneurialism, and it felt like things were constantly evolving. The firm grew significantly while I was there. I valued the opportunity to work with colleagues internationally, particularly Betsy Donovan and Roy Ang, my marketing and BD counterparts in the US and APAC.
There were many projects I enjoyed working on, but a couple that stand out include launching the Singapore office following Withers' merger with KhattarWong and leading the delivery of the firm's new website. Both involved extensive collaboration across teams, and the website in particular was something we were all incredibly proud of. It's great to see it still serving the firm well today.
What have you been up to since leaving, and what does your role involve today?
I've always been interested in how I could use my skills to contribute positively in the world. During my time at Withers, I became increasingly curious about how individuals and families think about the purpose of their wealth, particularly how they align their capital with what matters to them. That led me to explore impact finance, supporting bold ideas that drive social and environmental impact while also delivering strong financial returns.
To deepen my understanding, after leaving Withers in 2018 I completed a year-long program in social entrepreneurship focused on building commercially successful companies that address social and environmental challenges. I then looked at who was connecting wealth holders and asset owners to these opportunities, which led me to Snowball, a pioneering impact investment vehicle. I joined in 2020 as part of the founding team.
My role at Snowball has been broad and draws on the experience I gained at Withers. I’ve been involved in building the brand, raising capital, working closely with investors, and growing a community around impact investing. A big part of my role is also education. Helping people understand how to generate both financial returns and measurable positive impact from their capital, which I find incredibly rewarding.
Looking back, how has your time at Withers influenced the way you work today?
It gave me a strong professional foundation and high standards of excellence, which continues to shape how I approach my work.
I particularly valued the international nature of the firm, and working with people from different backgrounds and perspectives, which sparked an ongoing interest in how teams work effectively. I was also fortunate to be involved in several DEI initiatives, which reinforced the importance of creating environments where people feel they belong and can do their best work.
Just as importantly, I learned that you can work hard and still genuinely enjoy what you do. There was a real sense of energy and connection within the Marketing and BD team . We worked hard and had fun along the way. That's something that has stayed with me. Above everything, it was the people who made my time at Withers so special. I built relationships I still value hugely today.
Were there any individuals who shaped your development during your time at Withers?
I was fortunate to work with a wide range of people who had a positive impact on my time at the firm , it’s genuinely hard to single out just a few because the firm has a great culture.
Outside the marketing team, I particularly value having worked closely with Peter Wood, Meriel Schindler and Elaine Aarons, as well as others across dispute resolution. They played a key role in enabling me to lead key projects, work internationally, and progress my career. I’ve always believed in a strengths-based approach, and their ability to recognize and nurture talent is something I’ve carried forward in how I work with others.
What advice would you give to someone earlier in their career at Withers today?
Don’t underestimate the breadth of experience you can gain at Withers. It's an incredible platform, supporting clients across all aspects of their lives, and connecting people across diverse sectors; from art and fashion to entrepreneurialism and philanthropy.
Make the most of that opportunity. Get involved, be curious, and use it to understand what really motivates you. I'm passionate about aligning our values with how we spend our time and capital.
As Withers builds its alumni community, what value do you think ongoing connections between former and current colleagues can bring, and how would you like to see the network develop?
For me, the value of the network lies in the opportunity to move beyond simply staying in touch, to creating a platform for sharing ideas, introductions and connections. We all share a common experience supporting wealth holders, their families and businesses, so there's real value in continuing to exchange insights and perspectives.
Withers has built a distinctive and highly respected global brand, shaped not only by the firm itself, but by the people who have been part of it and continue to carry that forward. Bringing that community together and drawing on that wealth of collective experience creates a powerful opportunity. That's where it becomes most meaningful and engaging, benefiting both the firm and its alumni.
What’s next for you?
We’ve recently reached an important milestone, with Snowball's acquisition by Tribe Impact Capital, which the whole team is incredibly proud of. It brings together a multi-asset impact fund and an award-winning impact wealth manager, aligned around a shared mission: to help investors achieve long-term financial returns alongside positive social and environmental outcomes.
It's been a hugely rewarding journey, and I’m excited to see what comes next. Both for me and for the continued growth of the impact investment sector.
