Event | One divorce, many courts: Strategic planning in cross-border divorce | Hong Kong

26 May 2026 | Applicable law: China, Hong Kong, US

Time | 12:00pm - 1:30pm (HKT), light lunch will be provided

In an increasingly globalised world, family relationships often span multiple jurisdictions. Choosing where to commence divorce proceedings can have a significant impact on outcomes relating to finances, children and long-term enforceability.

This seminar will explore the strategic considerations behind jurisdiction and forum selection in cross-border divorce cases, with a particular focus on Hong Kong, Mainland China and the United States. Our speakers will examine why forum shopping matters, how different legal systems deal with the division of assets, and child-related issues when multiple countries are involved. The discussion will also address enforcement considerations, including how, and whether, orders made in one jurisdiction can be recognised and enforced in another.

The session will be of particular interest to individuals with international connections, as well as advisers navigating complex, multi-jurisdictional family law issues.

A must attend session for internationally connected individuals and advisers dealing with complex, multi jurisdictional family law issues.
