Withers hires distinguished investment treaty arbitration and public international law specialist Aniruddha Rajput

Aniruddha Rajput, a member of the United Nations International Law Commission and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, has joined Withers' Public International Law and International Arbitration Groups as a consultant.

Aniruddha is a highly respected specialist in public international law disputes and investor-state arbitrations. He was elected to the UN International Law Commission in 2016 with the highest number of votes in the Asia-Pacific Group and is Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Commission. Aniruddha has also occupied roles at the state and federal levels in India, including as a member of the study group of the Law Commission of India to comment on the Indian Model Bilateral Investment Treaty. He has academic appointments at universities in India and Europe and completed his PhD in public international law at the National University of Singapore. He has published widely in the field – including authoring 'Protection of Foreign Investment in India and Investment Treaty Arbitration', published by Kluwer Law.

Withers' public international law practice covers the full spectrum of the field including land and maritime boundary disputes, the law of the sea, international environmental law, human rights, sovereign immunity, sanctions and oil and gas. The team represents States in matters before the International Court of Justice and in State-State arbitrations. We also act in investment treaty arbitration cases, including under the auspices of ICSID and the PCA, and have specialist experience in drafting investment treaties for States.
