Philip is a partner in the private client and tax team.

He has worked for the firm in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, and is admitted in England and the British Virgin Islands.

Philip advises individuals, trustees and financial institutions on international succession planning, trust structuring, estate planning and UK tax matters. His practice has a particular focus on cross-border trusts and estates. He regularly acts for high-profile and celebrity clients.

He regularly advises on BVI trust structures, trustee decision-making and significant trust transactions. Philip also advises on governance, restructuring and dispute-related issues affecting trusts, foundations, private trust companies and family wealth structures.  

 

Representative experience includes:

  • Forming private trust companies and institutional trust companies in the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Hong Kong and Singapore.
  • Establishing and restructuring trusts and foundations for international families.
  • Advising on private fund structures, including open-ended and closed-ended companies, limited partnerships and unit trusts.
  • Advising individuals and families on UK tax planning in connection with moving to or investing in the United Kingdom.
  • Acting for executors and personal representatives in international probate and cross-border estate administration matters.
  • Advising trustees of trusts facing actual or potential solvency concerns.
  • Advising trustees in relation to beneficiary claims and disputes arising from commercial transactions.
  • Forming blind trusts where these are required for political or commercial purposes to remove or reduce conflicts of interest.
  • Implementing settlement agreements to resolve family, trust and succession disputes.
  • Advising on bona vacantia issues affecting trusts, estates and corporate structures.
