Firm strengthens its presence in Golden State amid growth in headcount and capabilities

Withers is expanding its California office space with moves to new building locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego. Since entering the California market in 2015, the firm has nearly doubled its partner headcount to 23 and in the last few years alone has launched several key practice groups headed by new lawyers in the state.

These moves demonstrate our firm’s commitment to continued growth and success in California, as well as setting us up to meet the needs of an increasing number of clients with diverse interests in the new economy, including tech innovators,” said Withers’ CEO Margaret Robertson. “We’ve been extremely fortunate to attract some of the best attorneys in the field in recent years to help grow our capabilities and the services we offer our local, national and global clients and their businesses.”

The new offices offer environments for client engagement and collaboration, innovative workplace concepts, energy efficiencies and technology tools to support the firm’s mobile working policy and to accommodate today’s flexible work arrangements in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. They also align with the firm’s environmental initiatives.

  • The new Los Angeles office officially opened on May 2, 2022 and nearly triples the potential occupancy, bringing the total space from about 8,900 to 23,100 square feet. The office remains in Century City and is located at 10250 Constellation Place.
  • The new San Francisco office opened on May 31 and nearly doubles the firm’s square footage to 14,000 square feet. The office is located at 909 Montgomery Street.
  • The new San Diego office will open in early August, combining its two existing locations into a central 13,550 square-foot hub in the Del Mar Area of North County. The office is located in the One Paseo complex at 3725 Paseo Place.

Equally important, we’ve chosen locations and office layouts that will further enhance our ability to closely collaborate with our clients.”

The office moves build on the firm’s strategic positioning in California, following the launches of several key practice groups in the state, including: a Fashion Tech practice launched by Los Angeles-based partner Gina Bibby in 2019; a Founders practice launched by San Francisco-based partner Doug Mandell in 2020; a Cryptocurrency and Digital Assets group launched by Los Angeles-based partner Charles Kolstad in 2020; a U.S.-Canada practice launched by San Francisco Office Managing Partner Marsha Dungog in 2021; and a U.S. Family Law practice launched by Samantha Klein in Los Angeles in 2021. Additionally, the firm has expanded its teams in the areas of real estate, employment, corporate, intellectual property, fashion and retail, litigation (including commercial and trusts and estates teams) and private client and tax in California.

The California growth comes amid Withers’ 125th global anniversary, as well as the 20-year anniversary of the combination of UK-based Withers and U.S.-based Bergman Horowitz & Reynolds.
