Withers Partner recognized by The National Law Journal as ‘Immigration Trailblazer’

7 August 2018

International law firm Withers is pleased to announce that partner Reaz Jafri was included on The National Law Journal’s inaugural Immigration Trailblazers list.

The National Law Journal’s Immigration Trailblazer list recognizes a small group of individuals who have “moved the needle in facilitating the ever-changing immigration policies” and are “making great strides in the fight for justice.” The publication highlighted Reaz’ work in challenging a U.S. State Department position that required someone overseas who renounced citizenship to immediately relinquish their passport, even before the renunciation process was complete. This was significant because U.S. citizens are not eligible for a U.S. visa, and without a passport, certain individuals were deprived of their constitutional right to travel to the U.S. Working on behalf of a client who was unable to attend her father’s funeral, Reaz convinced the State Department to change the law, helping many individuals and families who faced similar burdens.

More recently, Reaz launched Withers Global Advisors (WGA), a first-of-its kind consulting business to help global citizens and families manage personal, political and other risks.

Reaz’s legal practice integrates immigration, tax and financial planning. He has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable, creative and solution-oriented attorney who fully understands the commercial benefit of predictable, efficient immigration counsel as well as the personal and professional implications of immigration upon the lives of executives, investors, business owners, professionals and their families.
