Court reporting lawyers

Justice seen is justice done and while the media plays a key role in its administration, there are cases where reporting is inappropriate. We advise on legal proceedings of English courts and the applicability of Contempt of Court rules.

The media fulfils a vital role in the administration of justice by ensuring that justice seen is justice done. There are however circumstances where reporting of aspects of certain cases is inappropriate and where media reporting should be restrained.

Reporting of criminal proceedings which risks prejudicing the administration of justice can also constitute contempt of court. We are experienced in advising and assisting on such matters, on the appropriateness of private or anonymized proceedings and the applicability of English contempt laws.

We advise on reporting restrictions in court proceedings of all types including, importantly, in employment, family and regulatory proceedings.

Clients have asked us to help protect their privacy by assisting in court applications to restrict unnecessary third-party access to documents held on court files and advise on the application of contempt laws in tandem with criminal law specialists.

Naturally, we liaise with colleagues in our international offices and contacts worldwide, to seek local legal advice and assistance wherever it is needed.
