Investment funds partner at Withers in Hong Kong

Simon is a partner in the corporate team in Hong Kong and focuses on investment funds. He advises on private equity, credit, real estate, infrastructure, venture capital, hedge, crypto and RMB-USD funds, representing both investment managers and investors across Asia.

He also advises on licensing applications and ongoing regulatory and compliance obligations relevant to investment managers, including fund offerings in Hong Kong, the PRC, the United States and Australia.

In addition, Simon specialises in financial regulation and related issues affecting investment managers, fintech companies, financial institutions, banks and family offices. He regularly advises on the regulatory and contractual implications of cross-border business activities in the financial services sector.
 

Advising the investment funds and financial services industry

As a business lawyer with an international background, Simon has focused on investment funds and financial services regulation throughout his career.

He advises a wide range of clients, including sponsors, investment managers, fintech companies and financial institutions, on investment funds, regulatory and compliance matters, as well as the structuring and operation of funds across multiple jurisdictions.


International investment funds transactions and regulation

Simon leads on matters involving international investment funds and regulatory frameworks, advising clients across Asia and other key financial centres.

His work includes fund formation, cross-border fund offerings, licensing and regulatory matters, as well as ongoing compliance obligations for investment managers.


Recognition

Simon was recognised as a 'Next Generation Lawyer' for Investment Funds in Hong Kong by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

He has also been noted for his work advising on private funds, hedge fund structuring and regulatory matters in Asia.

Before joining the firm, Simon led the private funds practice at another international law firm in Hong Kong and was a senior member of its financial services regulatory practice. He also practised in Sydney and Hong Kong.
