UK Charity Commission launches a campaign to refresh trustee knowledge of charity governance

25 March 2021 | Applicable law: England and Wales

The Charity Commission has launched five videos to help trustees be “certain in uncertain times”, which accompany the ‘5 minute guides’ for trustees which were published in November 2020.

The videos and the guides aim to fulfil the Commission’s aim of making guidance and information more accessible to trustees. The approach recognises that the majority of charity trustees are unpaid volunteers and has been informed by research conducted by the Commission into trustees’ knowledge and awareness of their responsibilities.

The areas covered by the 5 minute guides and new accompanying videos are:

  • Financial oversight
  • Achieving a charity’s purposes
  • Good decision making
  • Addressing conflicts of interest
  • What to file with the Commission and what support is available

As we have previously noted, there are many complex issues in charity law and so we would always recommend that CC3: The Essential Trustee remains essential reading for trustees. Links to the more detailed Charity Commission guidance are provided in these short guides and so they do act as a useful signposting tool.
