AI, IoT and Blockchain: using the power of three to create business, legal and technical solutions

9 December 2019 | Applicable law: US

In this book, Withers Partner, M. Ridgway Barker and Joseph Bambara together with a team of industry professionals explore how organizations can prepare their businesses to incorporate three emerging technology trends: the Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

They cover the component resources, i.e., business, technical and legal needed to empower an organization to exploit them now and in the future. This book is designed for anyone interested in emerging technology and any business enterprise developing or considering an application using these emerging technologies. Additionally, it instructs businessmen and attorneys who need to stay current with technology and the ethical considerations of using these technologies specifically, as well as its use cases and what is required to build technology solutions.

Each chapter in the book describes a particular aspect of the three technologies and respective use cases. That said, there is a sequence whereby each chapter builds on the previous chapters to provide a solid conceptual understanding of the three technologies coupled with a comprehensive treatment for getting started as a designer and developer of applications. This includes the technology stack in addition to code and deployment techniques and examples including an entire application from code start to deployment finish. They provide a solid introduction to artificial intelligence and the internet of things and they concentrate on the Blockchain. It is the most important component of the three, as it is the back-end data persistence layer, i.e., “the truth”, while IoT and AI provide convenience and learned machine intelligence for front-end requests. They starts with a discussion of each technology providing introductory material. They provide the reader with details around the players (e.g., Google, Ethereum, IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.) who are fostering and developing standards for ‘Power of 3” implementation. They discuss the requirements not only technical but also for business and legal compliance with emerging regulation, security and privacy law. For anyone with interest in the actual technology there is a chapter where they walk the reader through the steps required to create sample applications and code. This facilitates, enables and accelerates the reader's journey to the implementation of these new technologies. They additionally explore emerging use cases for applications which integrate combinations of these technologies and most importantly how these technologies will change the way software development is conducted using the power of 3.
