Southeast Asia has been a growing region of economic relevance to Japan, with a staggering 40% of outbound annual investment from the country focused on the region in 2022. Singapore remains a longstanding regional hub for investment work, and home to the largest number of Japanese subsidiaries outside Japan. It is this strong demand in the region from Japanese clients that has driven our strategic move to launch a Japan Desk in Singapore in 2023. 

Our Japan Desk has team members in Singapore and Tokyo closely working together to provide legal advice primarily to Japanese clients on cross-border transactions, as well as a broad range of matters arising post investment in Singapore and other jurisdictions in Southeast Asia.

With decades of experience, we have a deep commercial understanding of the business landscape and cultural nuances across Southeast Asia and Japan. Led by Yutaka Sakashita, our multijurisdictional team allows our Japanese and international clients to access and work with lawyers qualified in various jurisdictions.
