Maya Buckland is a US-qualified partner in the private client and tax team in London.
She advises high-net-worth individuals, international families, family offices and fiduciaries on US tax, trust and estate planning, with a particular focus on complex US/UK and multi-jurisdictional matters.
She has deep experience advising on the US tax treatment of foreign trusts and structures with US settlors, beneficiaries or fiduciaries, and on the creation, administration, restructuring and termination of both US and non-US trusts. This includes regularly advising trustees, beneficiaries and family offices on cross-border trust, tax and succession planning involving US persons.
Her practice also extends to sophisticated cross-border estate and succession planning for internationally mobile families, including US wills, lifetime gifting, wealth transfer planning, family investment structures and family limited partnerships. She also advises individuals and families on pre-immigration planning ahead of a move to the United States, expatriation from the United States, and the tax implications of international mobility.
Maya also advises US and non-US charities, private foundations and philanthropic families across a broad range of US tax matters, including obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status, governance and operational issues, cross-border charitable giving and grant-making, private foundation compliance, and structuring charitable and investment activities in an international context.
She has been named a Recommended Lawyer in the Legal 500 directory.
