Roger is a senior associate in the charities team.

He works with a wide range of charities and foundations on charity law and commercial matters. He works with all types of charity including charitable companies, trusts, unincorporated associations and other not-for-profit organisations on a wide range of legal issues including governance, fundraising, commercial contracts and regulatory issues and has extensive experience of charity restructurings.

Roger has a particular interest in social innovation and investment in charities and organisations who pursue social goals and has advised on the formation of social enterprise organisations.

Roger also has experience of philanthropy and has worked on the creation and registration of a number of grant-making charitable foundations and has provided ongoing commercial and charity law advice to philanthropic organisations including advising on winding up.

He can also provide advice on individual charitable giving, including advice on Gift Aid and other tax issues related to personal philanthropy.

Advised 10 NHS Charities on the process of obtaining independence from the Department of Health and setting up as a new independent charity.

Led by partner Chris Priestley, Roger is the lead associate on the Withers team who act as standing legal advisers to the British Red Cross Society providing a full range of legal advice.

Advised the Novak Djokovic Foundation on a range of legal matters including a memorandum of understanding with the World Bank.
