Training in Hong Kong

Join the law firm for success in Hong Kong

Our two-year Hong Kong training contract includes seats in three areas - private client and tax, corporate and dispute resolution.

All trainees are assigned a seat supervisor for each seat who is responsible for providing you with training and support. During each seat you will have two appraisals where objectives are set and evaluated. At the end of the two-year period you will be qualified in Hong Kong.

What can you expect from us?

Our Hong Kong trainees gain experience in three areas – private client and tax, corporate and dispute resolution (including our market leading family team).

Trainees undertake several technical workshops (run specifically for trainees), where our lawyers ensure our trainees gain the technical knowledge necessary to contribute in their seats. These are complemented by ‘soft skills’ courses such as presentation skills and negotiation.

Trainees are also invited to attend the frequent training events for our qualified lawyers (often run on a global basis via online video calls and hybrid session). All trainees are assigned a seat supervisor for each team.

How we recruit

Our application process for prospective trainees solicitors to join us in 2024 has now closed. Applications are now open for a 2025 training contract.

We prefer our trainees to undertake an internship before taking up a training position. The deadline for applying for an internship is 31 January 2023 and 30 June 2023 for training contracts. All applications should be made using our online careers portal.

We start to review applications approximately one month prior to the application deadline. Whilst we would not fill our places before the closing date, it may be useful to know that we do start to schedule interviews before the deadline.

Your application will be reviewed and if selected you will be invited to a first interview with a partner. At this stage you will also be asked to complete a written English exercise and an online verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning assessment. If you do well in both the interview and the written exercise you may be asked to attend a second interview.

The second interview will also be with a partner. Successful candidates will be offered a place on our internship programme.

At the end of the internship you will be asked to attend a further interview with two partners, where you will be asked to give a ten minute presentation.
