Civil partnerships and same-sex marriage
The laws relating to same-sex relationships vary around the world. As one of the largest family law teams in the world, we are proud of our involvement in the development of case law in this area.
Back in 2007 we acted in the first same-sex divorce handled by the London courts. Katharine Landells co-authored one of the leading reference texts on civil partnerships.
We help clients entering both civil partnerships and same-sex marriages – as well as advising on the implications should that relationship come to an end. We work with clients to draw up pre-civil partnership agreements, prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, as well as providing guidance on the full range of children and parenting matters. Because of our particular experience with international matters, we often help same-sex clients who are moving to England and Wales establish the legal status of their same sex union.
