We are delighted to invite you to a very special presentation and happy hour on November 11 in Sydney, Australia.
Marsha Laine Dungog, Partner, Wealth Planning & Tax, Withers (San Francisco) and David Laanemaa, Director, Bentleys NSW will present on US international tax and estate planning considerations for individuals and families based in the US and Australia who maintain a globally mobile lifestyle, moving back and forth between the two countries. This will include a discussion of common US tax traps and pitfalls involving US-based investments, retirement and pension arrangements, estate plans and provide practical tips and resources for Australian based advisors to identify potential issues that could arise.
“US tax law fails to recognize Australian superannuation as a legitimate pension vehicle, resulting in double taxation, complex reporting, and outdated treatment that hinders fair cross-border retirement savings.”
Key topics covered will include:
- Australian Superannuation from a US tax perspective – what to do before you move to the US or back to Australia
- US Retirement and Pension Plans – what they are and how can they be managed once you move back to Australia?
- US Trusts and Estate – common US estate planning documents, structures and taxing points
- Renunciation of US Citizenship or Abandonment of US lawful Permanent
- Resident Status (AKA green card) - current developments for Australian and Americans living outside the US
Refreshments will be served after the presentation and we will provide you with an opportunity to mix, mingle, and discuss the topics in more detail - please join us.
