Briony is an associate in the litigation and arbitration team with a particular interest in art and cultural heritage law.
She has broad experience of complex international and domestic disputes involving civil fraud, professional negligence, shareholder disputes, insolvency, forfeiture orders, enforcement, and contractual and tortious commercial issues.
She has worked on art-related matters such as complex multi-jurisdictional title disputes; art fraud; exhibitions infringing intellectual property rights; authenticity disputes; gallery insolvencies; bailment; navigating co-ownership of collections; advising on artist's resale rights; copyright and moral rights disputes; royalty issues; and suspected forgery.
Briony is a member of the Art Lawyers Association and the International Catalogue Raisonné Association, and is currently studying the Diploma in Art Law with the Institute of Art and Law.
Having trained at Withers, Briony went on secondment to Milan in the corporate team where she was involved in matters including drafting corporate governance documents, due diligence reports, service agreements and transaction negotiations, with a focus on clients in the technology and fashion industries.
During her time with the intellectual property team, she worked on copyright and trade mark disputes, drafted contracts and licences, and project managed acquisitions.
Briony has been recognised as an "Associate to Watch" by Chambers High Net Worth Guide in Art and Cultural Property; and a Recommended Lawyer for Art and Cultural Property in Legal 500.
